4 of the people involved with the infamous #ChicagoKidnapping involving the kidnap and torture of a young man with special education needs broadcasted live on Facebook have officially been charged with hate crimes and kidnapping, among other charges.

Jordan Hill, 18, of Carpentersville; Tesfaye Cooper, 18, of Chicago (AKA PBG Hothead); Brittany Covington, 18, of Chicago; and Tanishia Covington, 24, of Chicago have now officially been charged with aggravated kidnapping, hate crime, aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and residential burglary. Hill was also charged with robbery and possession of a stolen motor vehicle because he stole the vehicle they abducted the man with, and Cooper and Covington may too be facing residential burglary charges.

The victim, a teenager who is yet to be named, was held for a total of 4-5 hours before being found wandering down the street confused and dazed, according to police. He was taken for treatment at a local hospital but is now at home with his parents recovering from the ordeal.

The video clip shocked the world with it’s graphic content, but has been a talking point today for more than one reason. Various Alt-right groups attributed the crime to a Black Lives Matter group or similar activist groups and ultimately resulted in the kidnapping being reported in various places as the ‘BLM Kidnapping’, due to the assailants being black and the victim being white & the extensive amount of racist, anti-Trumpd language used. This misreporting has been exposed by a number of mainstream news outlets and even members of the Black Lives Matter movement such as Deray Mckesson, who have openly come out and said “it goes without saying that the actions being branded by the far-right as the ‘BLM Kidnapping’ have nothing to do w/ the movement.” The hate crime charges they are being faced with prove that the state believe the attack was racially motivated, but it seems clear the young people involved had no association with any larger civil rights movement.
