Atlanta rapper and Trap music veteran Shawty Lo was killed in a car crash in the early hours of Wednesday 21st September 2016.

The 40 year-old rapper and D4L Member, real name Carlos Walker, was driving his 2016 Audi on Interstate 285 near south-west Atlanta at around 2:20am when his car left the road and struck a line of trees before bursting into flames. According to Fulton County Police the driver (Shawty Lo) was thrown from the car and killed and his two female passengers were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. A CD of one of his singles named ‘Put Some Respek On It’ was found and photographed at the scene of the fatal wreck.

Despite initial reports of a hit-and-run incident, it later emerged that no other vehicles had been involved. Shawty Lo was returning from a nightclub event promoting his newest single dedicated to his father when he crashed, and had posted a number of videos to his Instagram page of this event (@shawtylo_kob).

Shawty Lo helped pave the way for many rappers of this generation and will be sorely missed. Tributes to the ‘Dey Know’ rapper poured in all over social networking sites, from rappers such as Future, Gucci Mane, Lil Yachty, 600Breezy, Rich The Kid, Baby CEO, Team 600’s Dotarachi and Glo Gang’s Tray Savage. See some of them above.

RIP Shawty Lo.
