Chicago rapper King Yella voices his dislike for the new wave rappers who have adopted rock and roll/punk styles, including Lil Uzi Vert, Famous Dex, Lil Pump and Trippie Redd.
He clarified later that he was not criticising the rappers’ music and agreed they are good at making songs, but claims their willingness to adopt punk and rock and roll culture is damaging to Hip-Hop and other artists who’ve stayed truer to the culture.
See all of Yella’s posts about the ‘new wave’ rappers above. Do you think he’s right and new rap artists are too quick to move away from classic hiphop culture? Or don’t you think that matters as music is evolving?
