Today marks the 8 year anniversary of the death of Chicago rapper Leonard ‘L’A Capone’ Anderson.

The rapper was a member of the 600 group alongside other famous rappers such as RondoNumbaNine, 600Breezy, Edai & Cdai, and also had close ties to 300, Lil Durk and the rest of the OTF camp. At the time of his murder L’A was just starting to be recognized for his music talents, and unfortunately never had the chance to live up to his potential.

L’A Capone was shot and killed on the Southside of Chicago back in September of 2013. The rapper, who was just 17 years old at his time of death, was shot in his right thigh and lower back while walking through an alleyway after leaving a recording studio in the South Shore neighborhood. A friend who was with L’A at the time of his murder described L’A “walking to the corner” looking for the vehicle that was scheduled to pick the pair up, before hearing multiple shots ring out and seeing L’A laying on the ground.

The 3 men convicted of involvement in L’A’s murder (members of a rival street gang) were sentenced to 24, 45 and 60 years in prison respectively.

L’A’s mother Dedra Morris celebrates the month of September as “L’A Month”, as L’A’s birthday and death date both fall in the month of September. She has asked all supporters of L’A to join her in releasing white balloons and lanterns at 8:31pm Chicago time in memory of her son (See below).

Rest In Peace Leonard ‘L’A Capone’ Anderson.
