Chicago rapper RondoNumbaNine has been sentenced to 39 years in prison for the 2014 murder of livery driver Javan Boyd.
The 19 year-old rapper, real name Clint Massey, was 17 at the time of the shooting yet received a year longer sentence than his co-defendant Courtney ‘Cdai’ Ealy, who was 19 at the time (Read details of Cdai’s sentencing here: http://bit.do/CdaiSent). Some expected Rondo to receive a lighter sentence due to being a minor at the time of the crime but sentences are notoriously harsh where gang-related murder is involved.
RondoNumbaNine and Cdai were allegedly part of a group ‘looking for retaliation for a previous shooting when they took three cars to the Wentworth Gardens apartment complex in the 3700 block of South Princeton’. According to prosecutors, Cdai and Rondo were said to have spotted the victim in the driver seat of his livery vehicle parked on the block and opened fire hitting him seven times before returning to their vehicles and leaving.
Fans of RondoNumbaNine’s music may not have to wait as long as they had thought for new music from the incarcerated young rapper though, since Lil Durk and whoever is controlling Rondo’s Instagram page last month hinted at the possibility of Rondo releasing an entire mixtape of new material from behind bars titled ‘Straight Out The Trenches’.
