051/YM affiliate Yarmel Williams, known as Melly, was shot and later died as a result of his injuries yesterday in the West Woodlawn neighbourhood on the southside of Chicago.

The 27 year old was shot “multiple times” while gathering with others at a house party around 2:50 a.m. on the 6100 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue. Reports claim “at least one person” opened fire from inside the party venue, hitting Melly and a 34-year-old woman.

Melly was transported to University of Chicago Medical Center, but later died as result of his injuries. At this time is name is yet to be officially confirmed by authorities, but appeals for help about the murder on social media used his full name and the location it occurred in, which matches up to media reports of the murder. The female who was hit took herself to St. Bernard Hospital and is listed as in “good condition”, and authorities say they don’t believe she was an intended target.

Police have said witnesses to the crime “have been uncooperative”, and appeals on social media for information about the killing continue while tributes to the 27-year-old man pour in. Although Melly did not pursue a rap career, he was.a known name and face within the Chicago drill community due to him and his friends’ issues with popular rappers.
