Chicago rapper and SSR affiliate Extendo Quono passed away in hospital last night due to the injuries he sustained in a police-involved shooting in the Washington Park neighbourhood on the South side of Chicago.

The officer involved was a plain-clothes police officer, according to a statement from Police. Quono’s injuries were said to be “critical” after Police responded to a ‘Shots Fired’ call near 61st and Martin Luther King Drive and “became engaged in an armed confrontation” with the 24-year-old. He was taken to Stroger Hospital with “critical” wounds and passed away due to the injuries sustained at around 1:26 a.m. on Thursday morning. Friends and affiliates later confirmed his death via social networking pages and posted tributes to the young rapper.

Many media outlets who reported his shooting are yet to update their articles and report his passing, but the Chicago Tribune edited their article a few hours ago with news of his death. Police claimed they “did not believe” he fired the weapon which was found at the scene at a press conference yesterday, and the officer(s) involved was placed on 30-day administrative leave (as is standard in incidents like this). The Body-Cam footage recorded by the Police will be examined as part of the investigation which will follow.

RIP Quono
